The Olympics are here and it's hella sexy, between the names, the shiftlessness, and the USA Men's Gymnastics team who are 'thirsty' for some attention- it might be too much for James to handle. So we'll switch gears and look over the history of LGBT representation and involvement in the Olympics, as we hit record breaking numbers this year. Nnekay has the low down on a new show being headed by two Black Queens of art and entertainment called Queen Sugar. Led by Ava Devernery, it serves as a rally cry to female directors behind a new project on OWN. Who are these ladies collaborating on a new project, and what's it about?

Nnekay sets The Facebooks a blaze with a debate: are gay men and black women fierce? Is it time to retire this over used phrase? And "When Dez Nuts Attack" will James survive? This could be the last episode for our Korner kid James, but before he goes he'll tell all about his adventures at his first ever music festival 'Outside Lands', and he's got three words for you: Lionel Mutha Fuckin' Richie... ok that was four. This week, Sean gives his reaction to Star Trek Discovery, Amita reviews Battle of the Sexes, and we interview Queen Sugar Producer/Director Kat Candler about the hit OWN Series. Then, Amita tries to wrap her head around Sean's latest Big Sell and pays tribute to Charles Bradley.

The Fall season is already delivering on its promise of bringing us prestige, platinum perfect pop culture and we're all over it!

First up, Sean reviews the premiere of Star Trek: Discovery while teaching Amita some Trek etiquette in the process.

Then, Amita talks about the special screening of Battle of the Sexes she attended, which has made her a huge fan of one of the legends of tennis (Billie Jean IS her girl!).

Plus, we’re ecstatic to share our interview with Queen Sugar Producing Director, Kat Candler about her work on Ava DuVernay's acclaimed series. Kat discusses the experience of working with an all female directing crew; the job of helping multiple creative visions coalesce into one consistent series; and the indie film vibe that permeates the set. Sadly, Kat refused our pleas to reassure us that Aunt Vi is going to be okay. This is an illuminating discussion on what goes into creating one of the great shows on TV right now and the perfect thing to listen to for Queen Sugar fans (like ourselves) who are excited for the show’s mid season premiere on Tuesday, October 3rd. But have no fear - - our discussion is spoiler free!

Sean also shares details about seeing Queen Sugar on the big screen and the Bordelon siblings in the flesh at the Tribeca TV Festival.

Also, the Big Sell 30 Day Challenge - #BigSell30 - begins October 1st. Listen to hear how you can participate in the pop culture event guaranteed to fill your brain with the very best TV, music, film, comics and more!

And in this week’s Big Sell, Amita rates Haaz Sleiman’s coming out video. For weeks Sean has been unendingly intrigued by the unconventional way the actor (Nurse Jackie, The Visitor) announced his sexuality to the world. But how does Amita feel?

And finally, in the spirit of paying tribute - Amita Big Sells Sean an album by the recently deceased musician Charles Bradley.

This week we are graced by the presence of the wonderful writer/director, DeMane Davis (Lift, 'Queen Sugar', 'How to Get Away with Murder'). She's on the program this week to discuss The Wiz. She and April begin the conversation by fawning over the performance of the one and only Diana Ross as Dorothy. They also cover the technical prowess of director Sidney Lumet, and why he considers this film somewhat of a failure. The conversation then turns towards DeMane's work as a TV director. They go in depth on what a day on set actually looks like. DeMane tells a story about a time when the producers of her feature Lift brought on another editor. But she also stresses that the most important thing is getting your work out in to the world. And lastly, DeMane emphasizes the lessons she learned from The Wiz about believing in yourself, and that when you are comfortable and confident in the work that you're doing, that's when you become really dangerous.

Born in Haiti and raised in small town USA, Numa Perrier is a Los Angeles-based actor, filmmaker, and artist. Early in her acting career, she landed a recurring role on General Hospital, but now you can see her on SMILF and films including Florida Water, Jerico, In The Morning, and Beautiful Destroyer. An early creator in the digital space, she starred in and was co-writer of the web series 'The Couple' which landed an HBO deal. She later started writing a script for her first feature, which would become Jezebel. That project was accepted into the Tribeca Film Institute "Through Her Lens" incubation program. Now Jezebel is premiering at SXSW 2019. The film follows 19-year-old Tiffany as she deals with her dying mother and tries to make ends meet when her older phone sex operator sister grooms her to become one of the first black webcam girls in the 1990s.

The movie that Numa has chosen to discuss is a classic - 1972's Blacula. She and April go deep on their discussion of William Marshall's intense, Shakespearean portrayal of the eponymous vampire. Plus, they dissect how radical this film was in terms of its portrayal of black men on screen. Numa opens up about the making of her own movie, Jezebel. She gives some great advice on filming and completing a micro-budget film. Plus, she discusses the double standard that low budget black filmmakers face versus their white counterparts.
